British Safety Council Awards 2018
QMUL Health and Safety Directorate (HSD) has won an International Safety Award with Merit from the British Safety Council in recognition of its commitment to keeping its workers and workplaces healthy and safe during the 2017 calendar year.
Now in their 60th year, the BSC International Safety Awards recognise and celebrate organisations from around the world which have demonstrated to the satisfaction of the scheme’s independent judges their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health.
The HSD were required to answer a series of questions about QMUL’s management of health and safety risks in 2017. This included questions around the identification and control of hazards, effective communication of risk assessments and the management of potential emergencies. A team of independent chartered health and safety professionals assessed the responses.
The award was presented to the HSD at the BSC’s International Safety Awards Gala Dinner in April. A new award for Employee Wellbeing Initiative was launched as part of this year’s award scheme and whilst QMUL were not successful in winning that particular award, the BSC did acknowledge the positive actions that have been taken to address this across the university.
